Disney+’s top Latina and Latino TV shows

Nothing is better than TV. TV rules! It is better to have more TV series that are created by people who are not in the majority. 

The incredible career of an Argentine producer is possible thanks to the success of Disney Channel Latin America over the past decades. Victoria Alonso(an executive producer for all your favorite Marvel properties, which includes the Marvel shows below!)Disney+, a new series that aims to offer a wider range of series, has a wide selection of shows written, directed or produced entirely by Latino creators. 

And because we love you almost as much as we love TV, we’ve put together a few of our favorites, in no particular order, for your bingeing pleasure! Enjoy!

1. Diary of a Future president

Created by Ilana Peña and executive produced by Gina Rodriguez, Diary of a Future presidentThis charming series is about a 13 year-old Cuban-American girl who dreams to be the President of the United States. We are shown flash-forwards of her achieving her goals. However, in the present she must learn some life lessons. This charming series has been highly praised for its diversity and talented cast as well as its inspiring tone.

2. All the Same… Or Not 

Carol is the typical teenage girl who has to deal with huge changes in her life. At school, she’s busy trying to figure out her friendships, her first relationship, and how to be her best self — she doesn’t have time to also deal with her mom’s impending marriage or making friends with her new stepbrother! All the Same… Or Not (aka, Tudo Igual… Só Que Não) is a fresh Brazilian comedy-drama written by André Rodrigues and Luly Trigo, directed by Juliana Vonlanten, and produced directly for Disney+. It’s a bright, honest, and engaging series that already has a second season in production.

3.It was Always Me

Lupe Díaz Smith returns from Mexico to Colombia after the sudden death of her father, a famous Colombian musician. Soon, the journalism student suspects something is wrong with her father’s death and decides to stay to investigate. It Was Always Me (aka, Siempre Fui YoThe Colombian mystery-drama series ‘() is captivating. This puzzle was created by Alejandro Stoessel and directed by Juan Felipe Cano. It was written and produced in Colombia by a Colombian team. And don’t worry — the series has already been renewed for season two!

4.The Book of Boba Fett

Robert Rodriguez, whose film direction might you have seen in the Desperado TrilogyOder Spy Kids (!!!), joined Mandalorian team as an executive producer and director for 2021’s The Book of Boba Fett. This series of meditations dives into well-known topics. Star WarsProperties that have never been in the limelight. Over the course of the 7-episode series, you’ll get a backstory for beloved bounty hunter Boba Fett, an eye-opening story arc for the Tusken Raiders, and an investigation into the corrupt politics of Tatooine. It’s a fresh and thoughtful take on the Star Warsuniverse that is different from all its predecessors. A bonus? It could provide important information for Season 3. Mandalorian!

5. Violetta

Many Disney series feature characters who have extraordinary musical talents. ViolettaThe Disney Channel Latin America’s telecast of, is not an exception. This is the show that launched Argentine pop star Tini’s career! 

Violetta (Martina Stoessel aka Tini), is a 17 year-old girl with a talent for singing. She looks just like her mother. Violetta was raised by her father, who is a strict and protective parent. He worried about how fame and success might affect her life. Are you sure Violetta will find her voice over the course of this series? You bet your butt she does — and more. Written by Solange Keoleyan and Sebastián Parrotta, Violetta is an extremely successful and captivating teen series with the brightest and bubbliest pop soundtrack you’ll ever hear.

6. Intertwined

Sixteen-year-old Allegra wants nothing more than to perform musical theater just like her grandmother did, and she can’t understand why her mom seems determined to stop her. Mother and daughter continue to butt heads until Allegra finds an old bracelet that transports her back to 1994, where she meets her mom as a young teenager and learns a little bit more about her family’s past. Intertwined (aka Entrelazados) is a fresh musical take on the tried-and-true Freaky FridayJorge Edelstein designed the format and it is produced in Argentina.

7. O11CE (aka Once)

Written by Javier Castro Albano. Marcos Osorio Vidal. Tom Wortley. Fernando Riveros. O11CEAn exciting Argentine sports telenovela. Gabo, a young boy from a small village has been awarded a prestigious scholarship at the Sports Academic Institute in Buenos Aires. He is now able to play soccer. But once he gets there, he finds he has a ways to go before he’s ready to be the star player he dreams of becoming.

8. Ms. Marvel

Marvel Studios’ Phase Four continues with big swings Ms. Marvels could be the largest.

Kamala Khan, an American-Pakistani teen, comes to Jersey City as part of the coming-of age story. Marvel’s version of magical realism. Scott Pilgrim vs. The WorldKamala’s inner turmoil is captured on screen. She has to deal with overprotective parents, high-school life, and reconciling her traditional Muslim upbringing with modern teenage life. There are also superpowers.

Ms. MarvelIt stands out from other MCU films for taking time to slow down and getting in deep with its central characters. 9. Soy Luna

Luna’s world is turned upside down when her parents move from Cancun to Buenos Aires for a job opportunity. Luna is out of place in Argentina, but she eventually finds her home in the skate-dancing and roller-skating community. Soy Luna is a fun and free-spirited Argentine telenovela from Gabriela Fiore and Jorge Edelstein — a big name in Disney Channel Latin America’s programming.

10. Elena of Avalor

You want something that will keep your kids glued to the television so you can get a good nap?! Elena of AvalorYou should watch this show. This charming animated series features a sweet, silly teen princess Elena rebuilding her kingdom from decades of rule by an evil sorceress. She also learns about leadership. The series features a number of Latin writers as well as Silvia Olivias, the story editor. Elena of AvalorThe show has been highly praised for its characters, Elena being a particularly good role model for children. It also incorporates Latin influences in all aspects of the production, including music and art design.

11. Loki

Loki has always been one of the MCU’s most fun and dynamic side characters, thanks in large part to Tom Hiddleston’s charismatic performance. With LokiThe god of mischief gets his moment in the spotlight.

After the time heists of Avengers: EndgameLoki is assigned to the Time Variance Authority in order to track down a rogue Loki variation. Shenanigans through time and space ensue, helped along by Hiddleston’s great chemistry with co-stars Sophia Di Martino and Owen Wilson. Loki It’s both an entertaining ride and a fascinating character study. 12. Bía

After a tragic accident years ago left multiple people dead, the Gutiérrez and Urquiza families have hated each other. This, as we all know is the ideal environment for two feuding clans’ younger brothers to fall in love. Enter Bía, a Disney Channel Latin America telenovela that follows the romance between Bía Urquiza, a budding artist, and Manuel Gutiérrez while their families do everything in their power to keep these two crazy kids apart. Created by Jorge Edelstein, Marina Efron, and Carmen López-Areal, Bía This is a captivating, thrilling, and sometimes musical story about a teenage love story that will seduce you from the beginning.
