Disney officially removes ‘Star Wars’ spinoff ‘Rogue Squadron’ from release schedule

Star Wars: Rogue SquadronThe original release date for the movie was December 22, 2023. Disney has since officially pulled it from its release schedule. The movie was reportedly pulled from production in 2021 due to scheduling conflicts with Patty Jenkins.

Official synopsis says that the plot “will introduce a new generation starfighter pilots as the earn their wings, risk their lives in high-speed thrill-ride and boundary-pushing thrill-ride, and continue the saga into future periods of the galaxy.”

The title of the movie was inspired by Star Wars comics, books, and video games featuring Rebel pilots fighting the Empire.

Kathleen Kennedy, president Lucasfilm was informed in May Vanity FairJenkins was working on the script, so the movie was “pushed to the side”. Kennedy stated that Taika Waititi’s Star Wars film, which better fits the “Star Wars” roadmap, would likely be released first.

According to Total Picture, Waititi said that he wanted to do “something new” and develop new characters. However, not much information has been released about Waititi’s film.

We hope Jenkins’ film hasn’t been completely shelved, despite it being taken off the schedule.
