Diego Costa’s impressive record at Stamford Bridge to give Wolves a boost

Chelsea will try to win three straight victories in all competitions at Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Stamford Bridge match in the Premier League.

The Blues’ league campaign continues after a 2-1 win against Crystal Palace last week and an impressive 3-0 victory against AC Milan in UEFA Champions League.

Graham Potter has been the new boss at Wolves and they seem to be finding their feet. Wolves have only won one league match this season, while scoring just three goals.

The Wolves suffered a 2-0 defeat at West Ham, which meant that they were 18th in points. So the club decided to fire Bruno Lage as their coach.

The strugglers will need a win against the Blues. All is possible considering that the hosts have lost their last four league matches against Wolves, losing three and drawing three.

Diego Costa, the Wolves’ star signing, will give them an additional boost. After five years of being away from Wolves, he will be making a return to Stamford Bridge and will face his former club.

The 33-year old has assisted nine goals and scored 30 goals in his 45 appearances for Chelsea. This averages to a goal every 95 minutes.

Only Didier Drogba, who has one assist or goal every 88 minutes at Stamford Bridge, is better than Costa among players with more than 1000 minutes.

Wolves will now turn to their new striker, hoping he can bring the same magic to help them get out of trouble.

Are Chelsea going to win the third straight game or can Wolves get away with it?

TalkSPORT EDGE takes a look…

  • Since March 1979’s 2-1 win over Wolves, they have been winless in nine of their nine away league games against Chelsea. They’ve failed to score in six of these nine visits to Stamford Bridge
  • Since Wolves’ return to the Premier League in 2018, Chelsea have dropped eight points from winning positions against them, more than they have against any other side in that time
  • Chelsea has won the Premier League’s two most recent games by a score of 2-1. They had conceded first in both previous matches. It’s the seventh time the Blues have won having conceded first in consecutive Premier League matches, but they’ve never done so in three in a row before

In their nine last away league matches against Chelsea (D4L5), Wolves have lost all nine games.
  • Wolves have only won one of their 15 Premier League games (D5L9), defeating Southampton 1-0 last month. Wolves have scored fewer points in the Premier League than any Premier League team that has been part of both campaigns (11)
  • Raheem sterling has scored six goals against Wolves in his five Premier League games, scoring four and helping two.
  • Wolves haven’t scored more than once in any of their last 11 Premier League games, since a 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in May

  • Rúben Neves and João Moutinho could make their 151st Premier League appearances for Wolves, which would put them level with Conor Coady for the most games played for the club in the competition
