Trump made a public statement on Truth Social that he slammed his former ally. This is a preview of what might happen if they meet in 2024. Trump sees the Florida governor as a potential presidential candidate in 2024. This could put a challenge to the GOP’s control if DeSantis chooses to run.
Insider asked for comment from DeSantis but his office didn’t immediately respond. During Florida’s gubernatorial race on Tuesday, DeSantis bulldozed past his Democratic challenger, former Rep. Charlie Crist of St. Petersburg, a feat he accomplished with decidedly less political support from Trump than in previous years.
Trump continued the feud with his posts on Truth Social, accusing DeSantis as being disloyal. He also refers to DeSantis again as Ron DeSanctimonious.
“Ron DeSanctimonious has been playing games!” Fake News questions him about whether he will run if President Trump ran. He replies, “I’m only focusing on the Governor’s race, I don’t look into the future.” Trump said on Truth Social Thursday that he was wrong in his answer regarding loyalty and class. Trump also claimed credit for DeSantis’s first run.
“Ron came to me in desperate shape in 2017 — he was politically dead, losing in a landslide to a very good Agriculture Commissioner, Adam Putnam, who was loaded up with cash and great poll numbers. Ron had low approval and poor polls. He also didn’t have any money. However, Trump wrote that he was willing to endorse him if he wanted to win.
DeSantis is not yet clear if he intends to continue as governor for the full term of his current term. Trump has not shunned the idea of a matchup with DeSantis.

Trump was noticed by Miami voters last week as he campaigned in Miami. He did not have DeSantis with himAt the event, he gave a half-hearted endorsement to Florida’s governor and urged voters to “reelect Ron DeSantis” as their governor.
Trump teased a presidential announcement at Mar-a-Lago next week.
