Democrats spin Kathy Hochul’s narrowing lead as a good sign in New York: ‘Wake-up call’

Democrats spin New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s shrinking leadThis victory over Lee Zeldin, the Republican challenger, is a positive sign that could galvanize more Democrats for Election Day.

Hochul beat Zeldin 17 points in August polls. But her lead has dropped to single digits with some pollsters placing Hochul only 4 points ahead. This close race is alarming for Democrats in a deep-blue state where Republicans are nearly twice as many as registered party members. According to Politico, Democrats believe the polling will be a wake-up call for their base.

Hochul stated to CNN that Democrats will win if they turn out. “I think what’s not being captured in the polls is that there really is, finally, energy on the ground. It doesn’t manifest itself earlier, but you only need to peak on Election Day.”

Both the Republican- and Democratic parties have contributed cash to the state’s gubernatorial election. Republicans who haven’t held the office since 2002 would be proud to win the race.
