Delta Makes $60 Million Investment in EVTOLs. Joby Aviation

  • Delta Air Lines made a $60 million investment into an eVTOL plane.
  • Joby Aviation is currently producing the five-seater taxi airbus and it is scheduled to go into service in 2024. 
  • Delta says it will assist customers in avoiding traffic by moving quickly between cities and airports. 

Delta Air Lines will flip the switch to electric vertical takeoff-and landing aircraft (also known as EVTOLs, flying taxis)

Delta CEO Ed Bastian stated that Delta is always looking forward and eager to embrace opportunities to lead the future. He also said that Joby was a partner that shares his pioneering spirit and commitment towards delivering innovative, seamless experiences that make life better for customers, their journeys, as well as our world.

According to Delta, Joby’s all-electric electric eVTOLs create a “differentiated and premium experience” that will allow customers to book seamless city-to-airport transfers. These transfers are quiet, efficient, low-emission, fast, and can be bypassed by heavy traffic in large urban areas.

The eVTOL will first operate in New York and Los Angeles — two of Delta’s key business hubs — and the airline said it expects it to be the first of its kind to enter the market.

Bastian stated that this is a unique opportunity for Delta to offer a time-saving and uniquely premium home-to–airport solution for customers who have been innovating and investing in key markets for years.
