Lauren Siler was about to board a plane from Anchorage (Alaska) to Dallas when she noticed the elderly dog’s frosty face.
Lauren remarked, “I saw her sweet little face sitting in her poor little kennel.”
A Dallas Animal Services Instagram account posted information about dogs that needed to be adopted or saved.
Donating a dog to the shelter is a great way to get as much information as you want.
Lauren reported that Annie’s drivers claimed she had stopped moving and eating. They also disclosed her age, which was 19-years-old.
Lauren arrived in Dallas, called Lisa Flores, her best friend and roommate, to inquire if it was okay to bring Annie home. Annie had already been adopted from a rescue group.
Lauren and Lisa offered their home immediately to the Pawerful Rescue, as they still required a foster home.
Foster care is sometimes temporary. Annie, however, is permanent because Annie has such an extended life.
“The vet had said she’ll be lucky if it’s a month,” Lauren said.
As soon as Lisa and Lauren started sharing images of Annie, friends started suggesting bucket-list items.
Annie took a hamburger tour and visited In-N-Out and Whataburger drive-thrus.
She enjoyed a meat pat at both.
She was invited to a birthday party.
She was subject to a professional session of photography and had her DNA tested. It revealed that she is mainly lab-pitbull.
Annie became more popular as they shared more images.
According to Lauren, “Some of her Instagram reels have had like 4.2 million views.”
Annie received cards from as far afield as the Netherlands, Australia, and Hungary as she celebrated Christmas in July and Valentine’s Day in August.
“We got so many donations from her fans that we went to the shelter and took a trunk full of treats,” Lisa added.
They want people to be encouraged by Annie’s tale to think about rescuing or adopting senior canines.
“If you can’t adopt, then foster. If you can’t foster, then donate. And if you can’t donate, volunteer,” Lauren said.
They informed Annie that she had less than a month to live. Four months later, they still shower her with love.
Care for a 19-year-old dog is difficult because they will soon die.
It will all be worth it.
Lauren remarked, “Until she’s ready to go, we’re going to let her keep living life.”
“It would have broken my heart more for her to have her last day in the shelter.”
