Uttoxeter racing tips
1.49: Kinondo Kwetu 9/4 (NAP)
Now, he is aiming to become a five timer.
He gained 7lb, but the win showed he has more to go. His opponent is well-weighted to continue his winning streak.
2.24: Geordie Des Champs 5/2
This is the first race of two that features an extremely open four-runner contest.
This one seems to have JP McManus silks, with Sean Bowen aboard.
He won well last time, reversing the order and some with Mr Yeats, defying a large weight gap. Now he looks even more in winning mode after being placed third three times previously.
Has a great form over course and distance here reading 1331 – and four starts ago only came third by a handful of lengths to the impressive Hillview.
4.09: Rose Sea Has 7/2 (NB)
This four-runner bout features even closer matches. Cawthorne (Sea Prince), Ballybreeze (Rose Sea Has) barely separated in the marketplace, but they were still listed in order on Thursday night.
The ‘outsider’ so to speak at 7/2 is one of just two to be coming into this fresh from a break but the other is chasing for the first time and very lightly raced and as the race approaches the market will be the best guide to how Ballybreeze might do against these consistent sorts.
Dr Richard Newland saw this grey win twice earlier this year and place well behind progressive types and a switch back to 2m could spur more improvement where he won’t be put off being towards the top of the weights.
Fakenham racing tips
1.30: Sophosc 11/8 & Yccs Portocervo each-way 10/1
Interesting opener. It is easy to back the favourite given his two victories over hurdles. He was separated by a few weeks but won by half-a-length to Larusso under Charlie Todd almost a month ago.
This person might be entering handicaps for the very first time.
Yccs Portocervo, however, is an outsider and could be too expensive for a few reasons. Another Newland-trained dog was also trained.
The seven-year old has been chasing for most of the time now, but today she switches to hurdles for the first-time since November 2019.
That was a Class 3 handicap and finished a respectable fourth of ten and now three years on, where he’s had the chance to progress a bit more is 9lb lower.
There’s a few of these uncertainties in this race and could be best watched but keeping these two onside is seemingly the way to go.
2.05: Spiritofthegames 5./1
One of the Skelton teams top chasers but hasn’t won for a while but never far away.
Aintree and Cheltenham Grade 3s are particularly important earlier in the calendar year. This significant step back in grade, while dropping in the weights, gives the ten year-old a great chance.
Can stay this far though usually goes closer to two and a half miles but the wind surgery back in 2021 is still yet to get a good demonstration as he’s often found others only just too good.
He was only six lengths behind Coole Cody at Cheltenham Festival, just seven lengths behind Midnight Shadow in a busy finish and maybe it’s finally lined up well for him.
