Cristiano Ronaldo, a substitute for Manchester United’s win, left Old Trafford shortly before the last whistle.

Ronaldo watched from the bench on Wednesday evening as his United team-mates defeated Antonio Conte’s side, thanks to goals by Fred Bruno Fernandes.

The Portugal international walked down a tunnel just before the full-time whistle, but he also left the stadium and went straight to the dressing room.

Asked about Ronaldo heading straight down the tunnel in the 90th minute, Erik ten Hag told Amazon: “I don’t pay attention today, we deal with that tomorrow. It was an amazing performance by all 11 players. I want to concentrate on the team. I must correct myself. It was a performance by the subs who came in. A squad performance.”

Ten Hag had two more substitutions available, even though he only brought one. Scott McTominay, Anthony Elanga Christian Eriksen.
