Cowboy Jerry Jones, a ‘blind referee’ costume perpetuates negative stereotypes, says the organization

Out is a national organization that represents the blind community. Dallas CowboysJerry Jones, owner of Jerry Jones’ “blind referee”, costume. Jones argued that costumes such as his are incompetent and further perpetuates the stereotype that the blind can be “incompetent.” 

Chris Danielsen, Director of the National Federation of the Blind told TMZ Sports on Thursday that Jones’ costume, meant to poke fun at the NFL and its officials, is “harmful” to the blind community, and seemingly singles out Dallas fans who are visually impaired.

Danielsen confirmed to the outlet that he does have blind Cowboys supporters. They show up to games wearing headsets and listening on the radio. He might be interested in it.

Danielsen pointed out that 70% of blind people are not employed and said that Jones’s decision to make mockery of them makes it seem that the blind are incompetent. 

He stated, “When anyone perpetuates the stereotype, it’s dangerous.”

Jones was seen dressed as a referee with sunglasses and a guide cane in an image posted to his niece’s social media account.

It could be a subtle attack on game officials that you make. Jones could be in serious trouble however.

According to a league memo from 2019, the NFL forbids “​​comments regarding the Quality of officiating individual calls or missed calls, the League’s officiating department, an officiating crew, or an individual game official; [a]Game officials were accused of acting with bias, or in any other way questioning the integrity and performance of NFL officials. [p]Do not post any negative, derogatory or demeaning content on social media. 

The league has yet to comment on whether the NFL team ownerHis choice in clothing will lead to discipline.
