Conservative Judge Declares Midterms A ‘Resounding Success’ for Democracy

  • J. Michael Luttig referred to the 2022 midterm results in the USA as a “resounding win for American democracy.”
  • Luttig, who was a former conservative judge, stated that he didn’t view the results through a political lens.
  • He stated that American voters chose to “dispose of those politicians who have betrayed” them.

Retired conservative federal judge praised Saturday’s 2022 midterm election results, calling them a “resounding win for American democracy”.

J. Michael Luttig makes a statement. That he did not interpret the results using a partisan lens. He instead used candidates who would be in line with the US Constitution.

“I don’t view the midterm elections in partisan political terms. I don’t care if the Republicans or Democrats ‘won’. He tweeted that he only considers these midterm elections in terms of the Constitutional terms of whether American Democracy won and lost.

“These midterms were the most important elections of our Nation’s History for America’s democracy. And the elections were unquestionably a victory for American democracy,” he said. “On November 8, 2008, the American People did what I observed this fall in a series Constitution Day speech: They took the power to dispose of those politicians who betrayed their trust, and with the power they had vested.

“Then re-vest their power anew in political leaders who understand better than their predecessors today that they serve the American People and are obligated by the Constitution to represent the interests of the People and the Nation at the seats of government — federal and state,” he added.

Luttig was a federal appellate court judge who served as a bench member from 1991 to 2006. He was also considered for the Supreme Court by George W. Bush.

“Just as the People vest and entrust their power in their political leaders, so also can they divest those political leaders of that entrusted power – divest the demagogues and charlatans among their leaders who have betrayed them,” he wrote. They can do this as soon the next election is over, and that’s exactly what they need.

Many candidates who doubted the outcome of the 2020 presidential election lost their bids to be elected in the midterms, including Mark Finchem, Arizona GOP secretary-of-state nominee, and Kristina Karamo (Michigan GOP secretary-of state nominee).

Trump was a former President and he continued to criticize Joe Biden’s loss. Trump backed both candidates. Many other election deniers also lost the races they were in, per The Economist

Luttig, January 5, 2021, published an article on Twitter Thread where he advised then-Vice President Mike Pence “to faithfully count the electoral college votes as they have been cast.”

For weeks after the November 2020 general election, Pence had been repeatedly pressured by Trump to overturn Biden’s 306-232 electoral victory. But the then-No. 2 refused to entertain Trump’s entreaties.

In April, Luttig characterized Republican efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election as a “dry run” for the upcoming 2024 contest.

And in June, the ex-judge appeared before the House committee probing the January 6, 2021, riotHe is located said that Pence disregarding the will of the voters would have set the country “into what would have been tantamount to a revolution within a paralyzing constitutional crisis.”
