Conor McGregor’s comeback is likely to take at least six more months, UFC president Dana White confirming that the drug test rule will delay the return of MMA legend

UFC fans will be waiting a little longer than expected for Conor McGregor’s eagerly anticipated return to the Octagon.

Since his fractured fibula and tibia at UFC 264, July 2021, the former dual-weight UFC champion was sidelined.

It was believed that he is gearing up for a comeback fight in the first few months of 2023, but UFC president Dana White has now revealed McGregor’s return is at least six months away.

One reporter asked UFC boss McGregor if he would be required to take part in six months of United States Anti-Doping Agency testing [USADA]After it was revealed that the Irishman had not been subject to any drug testing in 2022, it was tested for drugs before his return.

McGregor was a little unsure as the UFC boss, but he confirmed that McGregor would need to be re-enrol in USADA and remain in it for six more months before he can fight again.

If McGregor was to re-enrol with USADA today, he would be allowed to fight on April 23, but it’s currently unclear when he will actually dive back into the testing pool.

In contrast to his year in recovery, the 34-year-old – who has never failed a drug test – was one of the most tested athletes in 2021 with 11 samples taken over the course of the year.

It may take him some time to be fully committed to a UFC fight camp and available for the year-round drug testing that are required to become a fighter.
