FIFAPresident Gianni Infantino, who is seeking re-election in March, has been supported by CONMEBOL, the South American football confederation.
CONMEBOL member organizations have united behind Infantino who will run for a third term next spring as FIFA president.
This will be interpreted as CONMEBOL’s attempt to gain FIFA’s support for its bid to host the 2030 World Cup, UEFA’s one is up against it. possible one from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Greece.
CONMEBOL’s support for Infantino follows that of the CAF (Confederation of African Football), who unanimously endorsed the 52-year-old in August.
A CONMEBOL statement read: “After an exchange of views on the present and future of South American and world football, Infantino received the unanimous support of the CONMEBOL Member Associations.
“After participating in the inauguration of the APF Women’s High Performance Centre, FIFA President Gianni Infantino met with the members of the CONMEBOL Council, at the headquarters of the Confederation, in Luque, Paraguay.
