Conference USA announces Kennesaw State will be joining the league in 2024-25

Conference USA officially added Kennesaw State to its membership, the league announced Friday.

Kennesaw State will join the conference as the 10th all sports member. Dallas Baptist baseball was also added to the conference in spring. C-USA will welcome the Owls to its ranks for the 2024-25 academic season.

Kennesaw State was a good candidate for C-USA due to its central location in Atlanta, nearly 40,000 students, and a football program that ranked in the top 10 in the Football Championship Subdivision in all five years despite the Owls having only started play in 2015. Some issues still need to be resolved. For example, Fifth Third Bank Stadium’s capacity of 8,300 does not meet the Football Bowl Subdivision’s 15,000 attendance requirement. A C-USA news release announcing the move noted, “the configuration of Fifth Third Bank Stadium, home to KSU football, will allow for phased attendance capacity increases over time as the university engages in competition within Conference USA.”

This move continues the conference realignment trickle down that started last year Texas OklahomaAnnouncement of moves to the SEC. The Big 12 responded to this by adding three schools from AAC. C-USA then added six more schools after that season. Old DominionMarshall and Southern Miss already left for Sun Belt before this season.
