Colorado’s 7th District US House Election

  • Brittany Pettersen (Democrat) is running against Erick Adland (Republican) in Colorado’s 7th Congressional District.
  • Jefferson County anchors the 7th district. 
  • The district became less Democratic through redistricting, but Pettersen can still fill the seat. 

Brittany Pettersen (Democratic state Senator) faces Erik Aadland (Republican), in Colorado’s 7th Congressional District.

Democratic incumbent Ed Perlmutter who has served Coloradans since 16 years, declared he will not run for reelection. The seat is now up for grabs.

Candidates for the 7th Congressional district in Colorado

Brittany Pettersen represents District 22, Colorado State Senate. Before becoming a state senatorPettersen, a Democratic member of Colorado’s House of Representatives, was from 2013 to 2019. 

Perlmutter formal endorsed Pettersen’s bid for the 7th Congressional District seat. 

AadlandPettersen’s opponent in the election is a veteran, who served for eight years in US Army, with two combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. Last June Aadland declared his candidacy for the US SenateDespite struggling to gain traction, he shifted to the 7th Congressional District after new congressional district boundaries were established. 

He won the primary GOP three-way election, defeating his opponents and securing nearly half the votes. 

Colorado’s 7th Congressional District has a rich voting history

The 7th Congressional District of Colorado is anchored in Jefferson County. It stretches to Broomfield, several mountain counties to its west and south.

The money race

According to OpenSecretsPettersen raised $2.65 Million, spent $2.25 Million, and had $445,000 cash left as of October 19. Aadland is her opponent. She has raised $1.27million, spent $1.22million, and still has $49,000 in cash.

Nearly a dozen super-PACs, national parties committees, politically active non-profits and other groups that are not candidates have joined forces as of November 3. spentMore than $1.5 Million was spent to support or oppose candidates in this race, even during the primary phase.
