Coast Guard Saves Puppy From Flood Victims of Hurricane Ian

A dog and its human companions escaped harm Thursday. Coast Guard aircraft rescued Sanibel residents from Hurricane Ian that devastated Southwest Florida.

After the Category 4 hurricane destroyed the causeway Sanibel Island was cut off to the rest of Florida.

A U.S. Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin pilot discovered the two dogs and their island while searching.

All storm victims were evacuated to safety on the mainland.

On Thursday night, Mayor Holly Smith announced that rescue efforts continue because 200 households refused to leave.

“Today, the most important thing we had to focus on were the people that were on the island that needed to get off. That was our number one priority.” Mayor Smith.

Coast Guard personnel performed numerous rescues to save 12 people found injured on Sanibel Island.
