Malang Sarr certainly has the attention of Chelsea’s parent club, but not in the manner he hoped.
The central defender, who moved to Stamford Bridge in 2020 has spent most of his time there on loan. French side Monaco.
Sarr, who has struggled to get regular game time with the Ligue 1 team, was chosen to play in the Europa League trip. Tranzonspor.
The defender was doing well until he scored an absurd own goal.
Alexander Nubel, a Monaco loan goalkeeper, was able to see the ball being played back to him and decided to make a long pass from the six-yard box.
Sarr, however, was in the way and saw the ball bounce off his side and into a net to give the Turkish team the lead.
Things only got worse for Monaco too, as they went on to lose 4-0 in Turkey, seeing them drop to third spot on goal difference after Trabzonspor’s win.
For Sarr’s sake, let’s hope that Chelsea boss Graham Potter didn’t tune into the clash to see the embarrassing blunder.
