Cast of “The Princess Bride”: Where are they now

It has been 35 Jahre since “”The Princess Bride“First hit theaters.

Although the film did not make a lot of money at the box office, it is now a cult favorite with girls all over wondering when they will find their Westley. 

This is the latest from the cast since the film’s release. It is based upon the 1973 novel.

Before being cast in “The Princess Bride,” Cary Elwes had only a handful of film credits. Elwes continued acting after the film’s success. He starred in “Glory”, an Academy Award-winning film. And he played Robin Hood in Mel Brook’s version of the fairy tale “Robin Hood: Men in Tights”. 

He worked hard throughout the 90s, 2000s and beyond. Elwes appeared in two films in 2004: the horror film “Saw” as well as the “Ella Enchanted” children’s movie. Elwes reprised his role in “Saw,” the franchise’s seventh installment, in 2010.

Throughout the 2000s, Elwes worked in television, with guest spots on “Seinfeld,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “Psych” and the TV movie, “The Riverman,” in which he portrayed Ted Bundy. Elwes, the mayor in Hawkins, joined “Stranger Things,” for the third season.

Elwes met Lisa Marie Kurbikoff during a chili cook-off in 1991. They are married and have one child together.

Robin Wright

Robin Wright got her start on "The Princess Bride," and her career picked up in a major way afterwards. She was cast as Jenny in "Forrest Gump" not too long after, earning a Golden Globe nomination.

Robin Wright’s career boomed after she was cast as Buttercup on “The Princess Bride.” She was the star of “The Princess Bride” and she was cast as Jenny in “Forrest Gump,” Forrest’s best friend. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role as Jenny 

She continued acting through the 1990s and 2000s in films such “White Oleander,” Moneyball,” and “A Home at the End of the World.” Wright also appeared on TV in roles such as “The Yellow Rose,” “Empire Falls” and others.

Wright started her portrayal of Claire Underwood as “House of Cards” in 2013. Kevin Spacey. Claire was Kevin Spacey’s first lady president. She eventually succeeded Spacey as president in the last season. Spacey was fired after he was accused of sexual misconduct behind closed doors in the political drama.

Wright was nominated for five Emmys consecutively for Claire.

Wright and Sean Penn first met in 1989. They had their daughter Dylan Frances Penn, in 1991. After a couple of breakups, they were reunited again a few times and got married in 1996. However, they filed for divorce in 2009. They divorced in 2010. In 2017, she began secretly dating Saint Laurent executive Clément Giraudet. They had a secret marriage in France in 2018.

Chris Sarandon

Chris Sarandon was a star on stage and screen before he played the role of Prince Humperdinck, the iconic 1987 film “The Princess Bride.” He has a Golden Globe nomination and Academy Award nomination. 

He also acted as Jack Skellington in Tim Burton’s 1993 “A Nightmare Before Christmas”. On several occasions, he reprised his role as the Pumpkin King at Disneyland’s Halloween events. He also provided his voice for Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion ride. 

In 1991, he returned to the stage for a brief musical. He then returned in 2006 to play Signor Naccarelli in the short-lived musical “The Light at the Piazza.” His most recent appearance on the stage was in 2016, when he appeared in “Preludes,” an off-Broadway production.

Sarandon, who was 12 years married to Susan Sarandon, divorced soon after “The Princess Bride” was published. In 1980, he married again, and had two daughters and a boy with his second spouse. A second divorce was filed in 1989. He married Joanna Gleason in 1994. They are still together.

Fred Savage

Fred Savage starred in "The Wonder Years" from 1988 until 1993 and was nominated for two Golden Globe and Emmy Awards at the age of 13. He has come under fire recently for accusations of inappropriate behavior.

Before landing the role as The Grandson on “The Princess Bride,” in 1987, Fred Savage had only a few TV credits. He played the role of the little boy, who was alone and sick. He loved it, even though it was a kissing book.

After his role in “The Princess Bride”, Savage was offered the lead role of Kevin Arnold on “The Wonder Years.” From 1988 to 1993, the show ran. Savage was the youngest person to receive Emmy Awards and Golden Globe nominations, with two each, for his work on the show.

He appeared in many films including “Vice Versa,” Little Monsters, and “Austin Powers in Silvermembers” during this time and thereafter. He appeared on the show of his brother Ben Savage.Boy Meets World“As a professor who catches on to the main character’s girlfriend. He was cast in the Netflix TV series, “Friends From College,” in 2017.

Savage was accused of sexual harassment and verbal abuse by another crew member while filming the final season of “Wonder Years.” Although the case was settled outside of court, similar allegations were made against Savage years later. Savage was sued by a member from his show, “The Grinder”, in 2018 alleging that Savage had assaulted and battery her. Savage denied the allegations and the case was dismissed by 2019. 

Recently, Savage was dismissed from “The Wonder Years” reboot. He was accused of inappropriate behavior and was placed under investigation by ABC. He denied all allegations.

Andre the Giant

André René Roussimoff got his start in entertainment in the early 1960s as a wrestler in France, and was recruited into the profession because of his tall stature and muscular build. He was a professional wrestler and earned the nickname “Andre the Giant,” which is how he is now known. When he was trying to get back into acting, he assumed the role as Fezzik in “The Princess Bride” (1987).

Fezzik was his most prominent acting role. But he was also a highly skilled wrestler and played a significant role in the sport between 1964-1991. Hulk Hogan’s feud was one of Roussimoff’s greatest stories. Hogan and Roussimoff met many times, with their most notable match being when Hogan bodyslammed Roussimoff at 520 pounds to win.

Roussimoff started to take a break from wrestling in 1990-1991. He made sporadic appearances before making his full return in April 1991. He was injured in a match not long afterwards and made his final appearance at SummerSlam 1991 with crutches.

Robin Christensen, Roussimoff’s only child, was his one and only daughter. Roussimof, a Parisian suffering from congestive heart disease, died in Paris on Thursday, January 28, 1993. He was 47 years old. 

Mandy Patankin

Mandy Patankin had been a stage actor for many years before starring in “The Princess Bride”. He was also nominated and awarded a number of Tony Awards. Although he had a few roles in films, Inigo Montoya was his favorite. He worked on stage and television throughout his career.

Patankin was the star of “Chicago Hope” in 1994. He won an Emmy Award for this performance. In season 2, Patankin left the show. He returned to the show in 1999 for the sixth season, before it was cancelled in the next year. He made many appearances on TV throughout the 2000s before he was offered a lead role in Criminal Minds in 2005. However, he left the show before the third season because of creative differences.

He returned to Broadway in 2000 with “The Wild Party,” where he received another Tony Award nomination. Patankin appeared in “Paradise Lost” from May through June 2010, in London. He returned to television in 2011 with Claire Danes on Showtime’s hit program “Homeland.” He was with the show until the finale in 2020. 

Kathryn Grody and Patankin were married in April 1980. The couple have two children. Patankin, while acting as “Homeland”, visited Greece to assist Syrian refugees. He stated that he hopes to improve the refugee system and how they are treated. Gideon Patankin, his son, started posting videos on social media in 2020. These videos went viral.

Wallace Shawn

Wallace Shawn reportedly got the role of Vizzini in "The Princess Bride" because the casting director liked the way he said the line "inconceivable" in the film "My Dinner with Andre."

Wallace Shawn is an actor and playwright. His plays have captured the attention of audiences. He was said to have been cast as Vizzini by the casting director after he saw him in “My Dinner with Andre”, and liked the way that he said the line, “inconceivable”.

He is most famous for his roles as “Strange Invaders”, “Clueless,” and other films. He also appears in films like “The Haunted Mansion,” Vanya on 42nd Street,” and “Book Club.” Shawn has appeared on TV shows as a guest and recurring character. He was a regular character on “Gossip Girl,” Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” and “Young Sheldon.”

Shawn was also the voice of animated films. This includes all “Toy Story”, “Monsters Inc,” and “A Goofy Movie” films. Three of his plays, which he wrote as a playwright were adapted into films. The films include “The Designated Mourner”, Marie and Bruce, and “The Fever”.

Christopher Guest

Christopher Guest began his career in theater in the 1970s, but quickly moved into television and film. Guest was a star in “This Is Spinal Tap” before appearing in “The Princess Bride.”

Guest formed a partnership in the 1990s with Eugene Levy and they co-wrote many films. The films they made together are “Waiting for Guffman,” Best in Show, “For Your Consideration,” “Mascots” and “Waiting for Guffman.” He also starred on the 2009 film “The Invention of Lying” as well as returning to his role of Count Rugen at “The Princess Bride Reunion” in 2020.

After the death of his father, Guest was made the 5th Baron Haden Gast in 1996. He was a member of British House of Lords up to the time that a law prohibited him from being in his seat.
