Carrick talks in Middlesbrough, but Percovich is expected to take charge of this weekend

Middlesbrough’s search for a new manager may go into next week with caretaker Leo Percovich now expected to prepare the team for Saturday’s home game with Blackburn Rovers.

Percovich was responsible for the supervision of both games since Chris Wilder’s dismissal last Monday – a home win against Birmingham and a loss at Millwall – and if there is no progress on a managerial appointment, the away game at Wigan Athletic next Wednesday may also come under Percovich’s remit.

Boro have been inundated with interest since Wilder’s departure and are sifting through candidates.

Michael Carrick will likely be in contact with the club. If there is quick agreement, the former should be available. Manchester United player could be appointed in time for this weekend’s game. However, this meeting will only be a preliminary.

Carrick and Middlesbrough have obvious mutual attraction. There is also risk, and Carrick is not sure if he wants the 24 hour world of frontline management.

After more than 20 years of continuous work, the 41-year old has taken a break from soccer and watched Manchester United lose. EvertonHis son Jacey and his father, Jacey, were in Goodison Park’s away section on Sunday night.
