John Duarte, a Republican and Democrat from California, faces Adam Gray, a Democratic California Assemblyman, for a seat in California’s 13th Congressional District.

California’s 13th Congressional district candidates

Duarte is a farmer, businessman, who grows almonds and pistachios in his family nursery Duarte Nursery in Stanislaus County. The Central ValleyCalifornia’s 13th Congressional District, which supplies 8% of US agricultural production, produces a quarter of the nation’s food. 

Gray is a member representing District 21 in the California State Assembly. He has held this position for the past nine year. This program is designed to support their campaigns in efforts to turn the district from Republican to Democratic. Gray was a former legislative aide at the California State Legislature, and then a lecturer at University of California, Merced, before he was elected to the state legislature. Gray also founded the bipartisan California Problem Solvers Caucuslast February, with seven of his coworkers. 

Rep. Kevin McCarthy endorsed Duarte in a similar vein to Gray. NameAs part of the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Young Guns program, to the “On the Radar” list. 

Gray lost to Modesto Republican by a narrow margin in a five way nonpartisan primary. Gray won 31.1%. Gray got 34.2%. Both were the top two primary candidates and advanced to the general elections under California’s election laws.

Voting history for California’s 13th Congressional District

California’s 13th Congressional district includes portions of Merced and Madera counties, as well as Fresno County in California’s Central Valley, which is the state’s agricultural heartland.  

President Joe Biden was able to win the district by 20 points under its previous boundaries. This was 2020. Redrawn to include larger parts of Fresno CountyRedistricting after the 2020 Census gives Republicans an advantage. 

The money race

According to OpenSecretsGray has raised $2million, spent $1.7million, and had $274461 cash as of October 19. Duarte, who has raised $2.1 million and spent $1.9 million has $240,621 left over cash as of October 19.
