California Shelter: ‘Very Calm and Gentle’ Rescue Dog Still Looking For A Home after 6 Years

Chesbro, the rescue dog, is here to charm you.

The shelter dog lived in North Palm Springs for six years with the Humane Society of the Desert.

Chesbro was adopted by the Humane Society of the Desert in his six-month-old age. He was abandoned in the desert when he was born, according to Cali Trvino, who manages social marketing and social media for the shelter.

Chesbro has waited more than six year to leave the Humane Society of the Desert, where he lives with his perfect forever family.

“Chesbro is very calm, gentle, and loves to explore. He has such a sweet way about him, and we can tell he so badly wants to trust new humans and win their affection and love,” Trevino said.

Chesbro, a rescue dog, has worked hard to become the friendly dog he is today. Chesbro came from a stray and had not been contacted for six months prior to his arrival at the Humane Society of the Desert. Chesbro was reserved and shy when first meeting potential adopters.

Chesbro was trained to be more social. He now actively seeks attention from new people because of the tireless efforts of many committed volunteers. He still isn’t as outgoing as some dogs, though.

“A lot of times, adopters come in and want a super social affectionate dog who is sitting in their lap within the first 30 seconds of meeting them. This is why Chesbro often ends up getting overlooked. He is a bit shy when meeting new people until you give him a couple of yummy treats,” Trevino stated regarding Chesbro’s up to this point fruitless hunt for a home.

Chesbro is an animal who loves to eat, travel in vehicles, and swim. Anyone who adopts him will be blessed. Chesbro also enjoys being with other dogs, particularly calm dogs.

“His ideal home would be a relaxed environment with semi-active owners who would take Chesbro out for adventures here and there. He would feel at home with all the pets in the house, dogs and cats. He does love his walks and sniffing all kinds of new things, but is also in for a movie-watching napping kind of day too!” Trevino spoke about Chesbro’s ideal adopter.

The Humane Society of the Desert is hopeful that Chesbro finds the perfect forever home. It hopes his story will encourage animal lovers and help them to consider adopting less common animals. Animals deserve love and care.

“Every dog deserves to live a life in a home with loving humans surrounding them. They may seem shy at first, but dogs need to trust us. They won’t let you down, I promise.” Trevino said.
