California kidnapping: Person of Interest in Custody after using the credit card of missing victim

California authorities have arrested a person in interest during an investigation into the Kidnapping of a four-member familyTuesday’s announcement was made by officials. Officers made the arrest after finding a truck belonging one of the missing victims that was set on fire near Merced.

The Merced County Sheriff’s Office announced Jesus Manuel Salgado, 48, was taken into custody following a brief search prompted by him using one of the victim’s credit cards at an ATM in Atwater. Atwater is less than 10 miles away from Merced.

“On October 4, 2022, in the morning hours, Merced County Sheriff Detectives received information that one of the victim’s ATM cards was used at an ATM located at a bank in The City of AtwaterInvestigators obtained surveillance photos of a subject performing a bank transaction. The person appears similar to the surveillance image from the original kidnapping scene,” MCSO stated in a statement.

Salgado was said to be in critical condition by the MCSO when he attempted suicide.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are continuing to search for the four missing victims: 8-month-old Aroohi Dheri, her parents – Jasleen Kaur, 27, and Jasdeep Singh, 36 – and her uncle, Amandeep Singh, 39. Police statedAll four were taken at gunpoint against their will.

“We continue to ask for the public’s help with any information that may assist us in locating the family’s whereabouts,” the MCSO said.

Sheriff Vern warnke stated Tuesday at a press conference that there is no motivation behind the move. We know they are gone.

The arrest comes a day after Cal Fire Madera-Mariposa-Merced “was dispatched to Buhach Road and Oakdale Road in Winton for a report of a vehicle on fire,” the sheriff’s office said Tuesday.

The vehicle was later identified by the fire department as Amandeep Singh’s black Dodge Ram truck in 2020.
