California House debate: McCarthy and Democratic challenger take personal on immigration, inflation

Kevin McCarthy, House Minority LeaderOn Wednesday, Marisa wood, Democratic challenger, exchanged barbs with Wood in their only debate.

McCarthy is running against Wood, a junior high-school teacher, is running for the 20th Congressional District spot. McCarthy is a Congressman since 2007. Wood is running on a ticket that emphasizes her inability to spend time in politics.

McCarthy stated that he had “never faced anybody as liberal before” in the campaign.

He stated, “What we really need” is someone who can represent the entire Central Valley.

“I’m sorry. But were you referring about me when you said that you have never used a lib –?”? Wood replied. Wood replied, “Was that an allusion to me?”

McCarthy responded, “Yes ma’am.”

Wood was asked to respond to McCarthy’s. GOP plan to reduce illegal immigration. Wood stated that she agrees with the Republican Party about border security but she did not support building a wall at the border.

Wood replied, “No, Wood. I’m against building the wall. I don’t think that this is the only way we can secure the border. We must ensure that the border remains secure and that no criminals are allowed in, according to me.

McCarthy also addressed the inflation issue, almost a dozen times.

He is likely to succeed Democrat Nancy Pelosi as House speaker if Republicans, as pundits expect, win back the chamber’s majority.

McCarthy has for months treated his promotion to House speaker as a given, telling Fox News in August, “We’ll win the majority and I’ll be speaker. Yes.”
