California deputy and her daughter were killed in a drunken driver accident on the way home from Disneyland.

A California community is mourning the death of a sheriff’s deputy and his daughter after they were killed by a suspected drunk driver. 

“Today was a sad day for the Sheriff’s Office.  Overnight, Corporal Daniel Jacks was killed and Hannah his daughter were injured in a traffic accident. Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco shared the news on Monday on his official Facebook page. 

Fox 11 reported that Daniel Jacks Jr. was driving his daughter Hannah Jacks home from Disneyland after Hannah had been a performer at the park. 

The SUV had crossed the lane line and collided with their car.

Fox 11 reported that Scott Bales (47-year-old drunk driver) and a 45 year-old passenger were taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

Authorities have determined that Bales was under the influence at the time of the accident. He was reportedly under the influence of alcohol. Was arrestedOn two counts of homicide and DUI, together with causing injury to a passenger. 

Jacks, 45, had worked as a correctional deputy for the sheriff’s departmentFox 11.

Hannah, his 19-year old daughter, is remembered as an “incredible dancer” who taught classes at Hemet’s dance studio.

Fox 11 was told by one of her students that she was “very kind and nice to us”. According to Fox 11, a memorial was being placed outside the studio’s dance studio. 

A California Highway Patrol officer told KABC “there’s no reason at all to be driving drunk” in this era. 

Officer Jason Montez said, “We have so much different rideshare services and public transportation,” 

“There’s absolutely no reason. It’s totally preventable.”

The Jacks’ deaths were not the only tragedy to hit the Riverside Sheriff’s Office this week. Sheriff Bianco posted on Facebook that retired Lt. Bob Duckett succumbed to an apparent heart attack on Monday.

Bianco spoke of Jacks, Duckett, saying that both men were respected and loved. Their families are in our thoughts and prayers.
