Bruins’ Jake DeBrusk returns with a bang and sends Craig Smith down the lineup

“I was worried. Yeah,” DeBrusk said after the Bruins’ 5-3 win. “You don’t know at that point. It’s one of those things where lots of ice, milk and some other little things really helped I guess. I give my medical team a lot credit for helping me work hard. They’ve been a key element in getting me back to literally where I am right now.”

After missing the season opener, that place was back in action. DeBrusk rehabilitated his right hand and skated on Monday morning. He did not intend to return to uniform against the season opener. Panthers. He felt well enough to ask for a warm-up spin.

DeBrusk made an immediate return after reporting no pain, getting clearance from the medical team, and verifying his status with Jim Montgomery.

“I was thinking possibly tomorrow,” DeBrusk said of sitting against Florida and dressing against the SenatorsTuesday. “I got asked, ‘Why not tonight?’ I was like, ‘OK, why not tonight?’ I just made a decision. I was like, ‘Why not? Let’s go. Is it going to get worse or whatever?’ I got the green light. That’s why I was here. I was pleasantly surprised by almost all of the boys. I wished them all luck tonight.
