Surtain was forced to leave the game at the end of the second quarter. He remained on the sidelines for the remainder of the half, while trainers performed stress tests on his injured shoulder. Surtain was replaced with rookie by the Broncos Damarri Mathis, and the fourth round pick from PittsburghCoach Nathaniel Hackett praised him for his performance following the game.
“I got to see him step up and make some of those plays,” Hackett said. “The thing about Damarri is it’s not too big for him. You can see that today. Being a rookie, going out there, just executing at a high level.”
