Brighton vs Chelsea: Match facts

  • After scoring in three Premier League matches against Brighton in 2018 and 2019, including twice at the Amex Stadium, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Chelsea’s striker, has not scored in any of his five games against the Seagulls.
  • All four of Brighton’s Premier League goals under Roberto De Zerbi have been scored by Leandro Trossard. It’s just the third time a player has scored each of a side’s first four goals under a manager, after Fabrizio Ravanelli for Colin Todd’s Derby County and Teemu Pukki for Daniel Farke at Norwich. A manager has never given a player the chance to score five of these goals.
  • This will be Graham Potter’s first league meeting with Brighton since leaving the club for Chelsea in September. This is the first time a manager has managed against and for the same team in a Premier League season. The previous was Brian Little’s 1994-95 match against Leicester City (December 3rd).
  • Brighton have an expected goals total of 17.1 this season, but have scored 15 goals – they’re one of only two sides in the top half of the table to be underperforming their xG so far in the Premier League this term, along with West Ham (-6).
  • Chelsea (6) is the only side that has scored more Premier League goals during the last 15 minutes of games this year. Brighton is one of three sides that have yet to concede during this period, alongside Arsenal and Southampton.
  • Since Graham Potter’s departure, Brighton have failed to win any of their five Premier League games (D2 L3). Should the Seagulls fail to win this match, Roberto De Zerbi would become just the third manager in the club’s league history to fail to win any of his first six games at the helm, after Don Welsh in 1948 (8) and Barry Lloyd in 1987 (12).
  • Chelsea have not lost any of their six Premier League matches (W4D2) in the last six, but they have won two. The Blues last drew three successive league matches in January/February 2012 under André Villas-Boas.
  • Brighton haven’t led for a single minute in any of their 10 Premier League games against Chelsea (D4 L6). Portsmouth (14) is the only other team that played more games against a particular opponent and never took the lead in the competition.
  • In 14 league meetings, Chelsea have not lost to Brighton (W10 D4). Three fixtures in Football League history were played with only one unbeaten team: Man City vs Bournemouth (17), Cardiff City at Halifax Town (16) or Crystal Palace vs Wrexham (16).
  • Brighton and Hove Albion has never defeated Chelsea in the Premier League in their 10 previous meetings (D4L6), with all three ending in draws.
