Brendan Rodgers on James Maddison’s England exclusion: ‘It’s such a shame for the country’

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers believes it is “such a shame” that midfielder James MaddisonIt is not in the EnglandSquad for national team.

Maddison, 26, scored twice and assisted once in Leicester’s 4-0 victory over Nottingham ForestHe will be continuing his strong start for the season on Monday

But despite his form, Maddison was not selected in Gareth Southgate’s most recent England squad. The former Norwich CityMan has not played since his debut in November 2019 against Montenegro.

“It’s such a shame for the country and for James himself,” Northern Irishman Rodgers after the win over Forest. “You see his talent, his performance level for the last 18 months — I think only Harry KaneHe (among English players) has scored and created more goals.

“So, to not even be in the squad… even if he’s not going to start, to have a player of that quality.”

Maddison has now scored five Premier League goals this season and registered two assists, despite Leicester’s struggle for form.
