Box Office: How Drama Can Help or Hurt ‘Don’t Worry Darling’

  • “Don’t worry darling” is now in theaters after months of offscreen gossip.
  • Analysts are optimistic about the movie’s potential to bring in at least $20,000,000 in its debut.
  • It faces negative reviews and competition from “The Woman King” and “Avatar”, which are both re-released.

Warner Bros’s “Don’t Worry darling” opens in theaters this weekend, following a dramatized press cycle. Industry watchers wonder if the media attention will have an impact on its box-office prospects.

“Don’t Worry Darling”, for those who haven’t been active online in recent months, has garnered a lot attention. It’s mainly because of the behind-the-scenes gossip, rather than the movie.

There are reports that Florence Pugh was not participating in publicity for the movie due to a dispute with Olivia Wilde; Wilde’s claim that actor Shia LaBeouf had been fired from the film, which LaBeouf refuted; and a video taken at the Venice Film Festival which observers believed showed Harry Styles cursing on Chris Pine (all of these observations Wilde has downplayed most recently in an Interview with Stephen ColbertOn “The Late Show”.

Wilde said that the whole experience had “sort of changed my way to think about the internet, and how we interact with it or not.”

Experts at Box Office Pro are positive about the movie. Shawn Robbins, chief analyst at Box Office Pro. His Thursday forecast was publishedIt was stated that the movie should “at minimum come in above previous long-range forecasts due to the snowballing momentum produced by media headlines”, and that there have been strong advance tickets sales.

“Don’t worry darling” made $3 million on Thursday, including early Imax showings on Tuesday. Forbes. Comparatively, “The Woman King” nabbed $1.7million in its first Thursday last Week and went on to make $19million for the weekend.

Robbins noted that “Don’t Worry Darling” might be front-loaded in its premiere, and projected about a $22 million opening for the weekend — which wouldn’t be too shabby for a movie that cost $35 million to make that isn’t based on pre-existing IP.

However, there is reason to be cautious. The movie has received a negative review from professional critics, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 36%.

Richard Lawson wrote, “It strides across the finish line while it asks for us to think something profound, which will lead to a great reckoning for movie’s villains.” Vanity Fair. “We don’t get the chance to see that bit though, as ‘Don’t worry Darling’ has exhausted all its tricks.”

Its buzz and potential word-of-mouth will more than make up the negative critic reaction. The early audience reaction to the film is positive, with an 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. This is based on early screenings.

It will be up against “Avatar”, which Disney is re-releasing ahead the sequel’s December debut. And “The Woman King”, which was the top grossing movie last weekend, should also compete this weekend. (It received an A+ rating from CinemaScore, which polls audiences on a movie’s opening night).

However, “Don’t Worry Darling”, despite being a movie that has been missing from studios and is not in demand at theaters, will continue to be a box office hit.
