Blues opening-night lineup: How Neighbours earned a spot, Leivo’s ‘stressful’ day on waivers

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Jake NeighboursAnd Josh LeivoDid more than enough to be eligible for the official BluesTraining camp roster. But due to the trickiness of the NHL salary cap, especially when there are long-term injuries involved, they weren’t on it.

Fortunately for the two forwards, Blues general manager Doug Armstrong was keeping them abreast of what was happening, and other than needing to squeak Leivo through waivers, there weren’t too many worries. Leivo cleared, so the club has its roster for the 2022/23 season. It will finally come for the Blues against Saturday. ColumbusEnterprise Center

“It’s unreal, just that feeling of making the team out of camp,” Neighbours said. “That’s obviously step one, and I’m really excited about it. It’s a lot of hard work that goes into it. Preseason was stressful for me. I tried to keep my head down and do my job. Obviously really happy with the result.”

Monday was Monday. The Blues handed in their roster to NHLNeighbours and Leivo were not included in the list, although this was planned for a long time.
