Bloomberg: Twitter could begin charging for Blue Ticks in the next week

Twitter will soon begin charging blue verification badges. BloombergAccording to reports, Thursday’s announcement was made by people who are familiar with the plans.

The badges — a scallop-edged round blue icon with a white tick in the center — will be part of a subscription plan that costs $8 monthly, Bloomberg reported. The news outlet said that Twitter users who have been verified will have several months to either start paying for the status, or lose it.

Elon Musk’s $44 billion purchase of Twitter has seen him move quickly to find a buyer. There are many ways to make money on the social media platform. The move to charge for blue verification badges – if implemented —would come less a month after Musk’s acquisition.

Bloomberg reported that Twitter will not only charge for verification but also open its edit function up to all Twitter users at no cost. Bloomberg reported that Twitter is also planning to make the feature free for all users. It is now available to Twitter BlueUsers who pay $4.99 per month. Bloomberg reports that the change could come as soon as this week.

Twitter Blue is currently available only in the US, Canada and Australia.

Twitter did not respond immediately to Insider’s request of comment that was sent outside of normal business hours.
