‘Black Panther’: Director Ryan Coogler says he almost quit filmmaking after Chadwick Boseman’s death

Black PantherRyan Coogler, director, has finally spoken out about his grief for Chadwick Boseman.

Chadwick Boseman passed away in August 2020 following a private battle against colon cancer.

Ryan Coogler shared the following: Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman’s death made him reconsider filmmaking.

A recent interview was conducted with Entertainment WeeklyDirector, 36, shares his feelings when he was asked. Black PantherChadwick Boseman, a close friend and hero, died.

Talking about his grieving, the 36-year-old director said, “I was at a point when I was like, ‘I’m walking away from this business’. I didn’t know if I could make another movie period or another ‘Black Panther’ movie, because it hurt a lot.”

He added, “I was like, ‘Man, how could I open myself up to feeling like this again?’”

He explained that Chadwick had lost his character and spent weeks looking through footage of him with him. Ryan Coogler also revealed to Ryan Coogler that Chadwick was not only the lead actor. Black PantherHowever, he was an important creative collaborator who helped shape and direct the film from its inception.

“I was poring over a lot of our conversations that we had, towards what I realized was the end of his life,” the director added.

“I decided that it made more sense to keep going,” Ryan Coogler explained.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Wakanda for Ever: Black Panther will honor Chadwick Boseman’s legacy. The sequel sees the fictional African nation mourning the loss of its beloved leader, King T’Challa aka Black Panther.
