Black Panther 2: Why it was the right decision for makers to concentrate on female characters

The death of King T’Challa is addressed inWakanda for Ever: Black PantherEchoing Chadwick Boseman’s loss in the real world, this is also reflected in the above. The tragic death of Angela Bassett’s Ramonda and Letitia Wright’s Shuri, Danai Gura’s Okoye and Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia all affect the movie’s main cast.

As reported by Screen RantNate Moore, producer, explained that this female-focused viewpoint naturally developed during the storytelling process.

“It was the right story to tell. These were the characters most affected by T’Challa’s death, so we chose the appropriate people. It’s not about pushing women forward or holding men back, it’s about telling the story that is organic,” he said.

Noore continued, “And again we are blessed with an incredible cast who breathes life into the characters and makes it exciting to see what’s going with Shuri, Okoye, and what’s next with them.” [Nakia]What’s happening with Ramonda. To not highlight them would have been a disservice to the story.”

He said it would have been more artistic to include new male characters in order to have that voice rather than simply to tell the story.

Ryan Coogler had similar thoughts. “When you lose someone, who was closest to him?” That’s what we were exploring,” he said and noted that Wakanda Forever’sM’Baku received more screen time than the original Black Panther movie.

“The main characters and their identities were wrapped in this man. It’s the truth. Shuri, Shuri had her brother every day she lived. So when she loses him, what we discovered while we were working on the script, and eventually bringing it to life with the actors, was that she really lost her sense of self,” he added.

Mentioning that “it wasn’t really about gender directly and about who would be most affected,” he added, “The tricky thing about that is death comes for everybody, it’s the truth of it. If something happened to you, you would have the worst nightmare. The people you love and left behind would be unmoored and would be lost. So we were exploring all of those themes.”

Meanwhile, Wakanda for Ever: Black PantherThe movie will be released in theaters across the U.A.E starting November 10, 2022.
