Birmingham vs Hull City: Birmingham goalposts sawed prior to kick-off because match was delayed by uneven goal sizes

Hull City’s Championship fixture against Birmingham CityThe MKM Stadium was delayed Sunday because of the different goals.

The staff at the stadium used a saw to trim one of the goalposts to the right size before kick-off. It was taller than the other.

The 3pm fixture was delayed for 20 minutes in order to readjust the goalposts and to calibrate HawkEye.

IFAB recommends that goals used in official competition should meet the requirements of the ‘FIFA Quality Programme for Football Goals’ and measure 7.32m wide between the insides of the post, as well as 2.44m from the lower edge of the crossbar to the ground.
