Bill Foley, owner of the Golden Knights, speaks out about the future salary cap and trade deadline.

Golden Knights owner Bill Foley wasn’t able to join his players during their annual team-bonding trip to his ranch in Deer Lodge, Montana, this month.

Foley was tied up with an event for one of his biggest companies, Fidelity National Financial, but says he’s heard nothing but rave reviews from the players about their yearly trip to the wilderness. Foley claims that the highlight of the trip for the players is after the welcoming cocktail party at their lake house.

Golden Knights players follow a tradition where all new players must jump in the lake. This year, Jack Eichel, Phil Kessel, Michael AmadioAnd Adin HillThey were among the first to take the plunge.

“Then sometimes a bunch of them jump in anyways, just to be part of the deal,” Foley said with a laugh. “So that’s a little bit of a tradition.”

Foley sat down with The Athletic for an exclusive interview Wednesday morning at City National Arena, where the owner gave his thoughts on Vegas’ 3-1-0 start, his initial impressions of Bruce Cassidy, what a potential rise in salary cap would mean for the Golden Knights, what the team may be looking to add at this year’s trade deadline and more.

It’s been a pretty strong start to the season. Obviously you would’ve liked to have held onto that game last night in Calgary.

Yes, it’s true.
