“You are the only media in the world to do this. Biden was serious, seriously” Biden told reporters as they were being taken out of an abortion task force meeting at the White House.

Memoli wrote, “President Joe Biden’s press team has made no secret of their frustration with the way their boss is covered. The president has been venting his frustrations lately.”

The NBC journalist also highlighted a quote of Kate Bedingfield White House Communications Director, who expressed similar frustrations with the press for promoting negative coverage about the president.

“There has been a fundamental disbelief, particularly among the D.C., east coast press corps, in Biden’s vision, in his strategy, in his tactics, in his ability to do the things that he said he would do,” Bedingfield said. There are many tweets and headlines declaring that Biden’s agenda is dead. They also claim that he is out of date and out of touch with the country. And what’s happened is we’ve put together a historically successful set of legislative accomplishments that has defied those expectations.”

Memoli added, “Day by day, Biden has come to share that view of some of his closest advisers, that the press corps simply just doesn’t ‘get’ him and won’t give him a fair shake. Bedingfield pointed out that Biden hasn’t stiff-armed mainstream media. He simply engages with them differently than his predecessors.”

“The bottom line view for this White House is there are diminishing returns in engaging in more traditional press interactions with members of the Washington press corps that in their view remain ‘fundamentally skeptical’ of Biden’s performance. Memoli stated that the White House has prioritized the use of senior staff and Cabinet members to conduct local and regional interviews with the press, in addition to some other non-traditional formats of putting Biden out there.
