Biden to argue Russia has violated UN’s ‘core tenets’ as Putin escalates mobilization

President BidenDuring his Wednesday address to the General Assembly, Will argue that Russia violated the UN’s “core principles”.

Biden’s speech will be less than one day after the speech of Russian President Vladimir Putin Ordered partial military mobilizationUkraine, in an intensified effort to take it. Jake Sullivan, White House National Security Adviser, previewed Biden’s speech and said that the president would focus on Putin’s “naked aggressiveness.”

“He’ll offer a firm rebuke of Russia’s unjust war in Ukraine and make a call to the world to continue to stand against the naked aggression that we’ve seen these past several months,” Sullivan said Tuesday.

He stated that he would emphasize the importance to strengthen the United Nations, and reaffirm core doctrines of its Charter at a moment when a permanent member has challenged the principle of sovereignty and territorial integrity at the Security Council.

Putin’s mobilization,Russian citizens will be drafted into the military, it was announced Wednesday morning. Russian President says mobilization is partial and that conscription will be restricted to military reserve citizens.

Putin believes that conscription is necessary to protect our homeland, its sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and to ensure security for our people, and our people, in the liberated areas.

After weeks of military operations in Ukraine, Russia made this move. In a series counterattacks that started in September, the Ukrainian forces have retaken approximately 8,000 miles of territory.

Putin has taken drastic measures after the Ukrainian victories. Putin’s regime announced that a series elections would be held in Russia-controlled parts of Ukraine. Sullivan called the elections “sham referenda”, which were designed to give Putin a weak excuse for annexed regions.
