  • While Democrats lost seats to Congress, they seem to have escaped a “red wave” during the midterm elections.

On Wednesday, President Joe Biden expressed confidence in the direction of the country after the midterm election results and responded “nothing” to a question about what he would do differently over the next two-years.

Biden stated that voters know more about what they do than expected during a nearly one-hour-long news conference following the midterm election results.

Many races have different results still pendingRepublicans are expected to win control of the House, while the Senate is open for either party. Democrats dodged the “red wave” because midterm elections historically punished the president’s party two years after his initial election.

Biden stated that “It’s a good day for democracy,” later adding, “I know you were somewhat offended by my obsessive optimism, but I felt good throughout this whole process.”

Biden acknowledged that voters have concerns about inflation and public safety. He said, “There’s still a lot people hurting.” However, he stated that the “overwhelming majority” of Americans supported his economic agenda.

He stated, “I’m confident that these policies are working” and pledged to work with Republicans.

Biden’s comments on the next two years were in response to a Zeke Miller question at the Associated Press. Miller pointed out that 75% of Americans feel the country is heading in a wrong direction despite the election results.

Biden stated that people don’t want the government to abandon the work they did to lower prescription drug prices and pass bipartisan legislation to enhance the nation’s infrastructure. He said that while some measures may take time to put into effect, others are already starting to work.

He said, “So I’m gonna not change.”

The president said that he wanted to build upon some of his accomplishments, like the gun safety legislation that he signed in June.

He said, “We didn’t ban assault weapons.” “I’m going ban assault weapons. “I’m going to do it like the devil.”

Biden admitted that “some good Democrats” lost the elections but said his party had a “strong evening.”

He said, “We lost less seats in the House of Representatives that any Democratic president has had in his first midterm election in 40 years.” “And we had the best midterm since 1986 for governors.”

Former President Barack Obama called it “shellacking”. Democrats lose 63 House Seats Six Senate seats in 2010 Former President Donald Trump lost 40 Republican House seats and two Senate seats in 2018.

After the September 11, 2001 attacks, George W. Bush was elected to eight House and two Senate offices in 2002. But he said that Republican lost 36 seats in 2006 due to a “thumping”.
