Animals living on the streets struggle every day to survive and find food. One mama dog was killed in her quest for food after she was struck by a car crossing a busy highway. Though she died instantly and didn’t suffer, her puppy had no idea what was happening.
He was scared and alone, and he clung to his mother, hoping she’d wake up. A motorist pulled over to help him and called the local rescue. She begged for them to get to her quickly. The puppy was distraught when they arrived. He had lost his mother who was everything in his life, and he didn’t know what to do. He didn’t want to leave her side but the helpers had to intervene.

The rescuers took the dogs and put them into their cars. The rescuers gave the puppy some formula at first, but he refused to eat it. He continued to sob and huddle in the cage’s corner. The puppy was desperate for his mother to come home, regardless of how caring or compassionate rescuers were.

The rescuers decided that the mama dog would be given a proper funeral and some kind words. They pledged to take care of her baby in her memory. The puppy was dehydrated and had not been fed properly when he was brought to the clinic. He refused to eat despite all the efforts of his staff and the vet.

Unfortunately, this was something that the staff and veterinarian had seen many times before. When a puppy is like this, there is only one way to save him: give him fluids and nutrients. They could have killed the puppy if they were to hesitate. They gave the puppy an IV drip and allowed him to rest.
