As Title 42 ends, a massive group of migrants reaches Texas border

This huge group includes hundreds of Illegal immigrants hit just one part of the southern border early Saturday, as agents face tens of thousands of illegal crossings each month — and as the end of Title 42 authorities to expel migrants is just weeks away.

Fox News drone cameras captured several hundred migrants crossing the border and surrendering to Border Patrol agents in Eagle Pass Texas on Saturday morning.

Fox News has been told by a Customs and Border Protection (CBP), that there have been 72,000 illegal crossings within the Del Rio Sector where Eagle Pass is situated since the start of October, when Fiscal year 2022 began. In the last 24 hours, there have been more than 1,400 illegal crossings.

Since the beginning of 2021, there has been a huge increase in illegal cross-border crossings at the southern border. In FY 2021, there were more than 1.7million migrant encounters. Last fiscal year, that number rose to over 2.3million. 

MAYORKAS MAINTAINS DHS HAS A PLAN FOR TITLE 42’S END, DESPITE FEARS OF A NEW MIGRANT WAVE AT SOUTHERN BORDER 

Customs and Border Protection reported this week that October saw more than 230,000 encounters, an increase of 164,000 from October last year. Biden administration claims that the border is secure and closed. They emphasize a response that focuses on legal asylum, targeting smugglers, combating poverty, violence, climate change, and opening legal refuge pathways.

“The entire hemisphere faces a crisis in migration. Unprecedented migrations are taking place from one country to the next. Mayorkas told a Senate committee that the movement isn’t restricted to the south border.

Republicans, meanwhile, have blamed the Biden administration for its border policies, including ending Trump-era border security systems and narrowing interior enforcement — which they say have encouraged migrants to make the journey north. Some border states are taking matters into their own hands. Texas Governor Greg AbbottHe declared an “invasion” at the border this week. This gives Texas law enforcement the right to return illegal immigrants.

These new migrants arrived just days after a federal judge ruled in favor of the Use of Title 42 to expel migrants is unlawful and has ordered the government to wind down the use of the public health order — first implemented in March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Biden administration requested and received a five-week extension to implement its plan for a postTitle 42 border condition. Trump-era orders have been used to expel most migrants crossing the border. The Biden administration expanded their use last month to include Venezuelan citizens.

Fox News received information from Border Patrol officials that they fear that ending expulsions could lead to new waves of migrants seeking to enter the U.S. in the belief that it is less likely that they will be removed.

DHS said that it plans to use more of other removal authorities like expedited removal. It also warned potential migrants that they won’t be allowed in.

“People shouldn’t listen to lies told by smugglers, who will exploit vulnerable migrants and put lives at risk. DHS released a statement saying that the border has been closed and that they will continue to enforce immigration laws at the border.
