Apple’s next Mac Pro could feature an M2 chip with up to 48 CPU cores

According to Apple, one of the new computers it will announce in the next months is the M2 version of its Mac Pro. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. His latest article. Gurman says that company has been testing a new version of its high-end desktop. It features a chipset with both a 24-core CPU (with 76 core GPU) and 192GB of RAM. He believes that Apple will allow customers to choose between two different chipsets in the future when they configure their Mac Pro. For the moment, Gurman has taken to calling those the “M2 Ultra” and “M2 Extreme.”

“My belief is that the Mac Pro will be offered with options for 24 and 48 CPU cores and 76 and 152 graphics cores — along with up to 256 gigabytes of memory,” he writes. Gurman adds those chips will be “at least twice or four times as powerful as the M2 Max,” a processor Apple has yet to announce. These core counts are a bit out of context as the base M2 contains 8 CPU cores, and 10 GPU cores. The unannounced M2 Max, which will have 12 CPU cores as well as 38 GPU cores, is also expected.

Gurman believes that Apple will release updated versions of its Mac Pro models before the new Mac Pro arrives. The new Mac mini will also include this chip.
