Apple’s MagSafe Battery PackIt does exactly what it says: A portable battery that attaches to an iPhone’s back using Apple’s MagSafe magnetic charging technology and charges the phone wirelessly. It’s a harder sell at full-price, but it’s today. Available at $71This is the lowest price we’ve ever seen. Apple usually sells the device at $99, but in recent months, its average online price has hovered closer to $90.
MagSafe Battery Packs are compatible with all iPhone 12-13, 14 models. Simply put it on the back of your iPhone and it will do its work. Contrary to third-party alternatives, you don’t need to press any other buttons to begin the charge. The design is a thin, matte rectangle of plastic that matches the dimensions of the iPhone 12 or 13 mini. It will also fit into the back of a larger device such as the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
This Apple-made product can also be integrated with iPhones in a way that MagSafe batteries cannot. It is available in two sizes. You can also seeYou can check the charge level of your pack using iOS’s Control Center or Batteries widget. Additionally, you can also reverse-charge your iPhone’s battery by plugging it in. The pack will charge your phone for 90 percent. This is to preserve the battery’s efficiency. You can however turn it off.
A 20W or higher charger, along with a USB to Lightning cable, can transform the MagSafe battery pack into a wireless charging puck of 15W. This gives the MagSafe Battery Pack a little more utility while you’re not at home. Unfortunately, perhaps expectedlyApple does not include either a power brick nor a cable with the box. The MagSafe Battery Pack is less efficient when it comes to charging your iPhone. The nature of wireless charging is a factor in this. Although tech has improved over the years and the technology has become more efficient, it’s still possible to charge your iPhone faster using a cable with an older battery pack. The MagSafe Battery Pack’s capacity is 1,460mAh (or 11.13Wh), which means it can only charge an iPhone 14 to approximately 60-65 percent.
We recommend Anker’s 622 batteryAs a Good alternativeMagSafe Battery Packs have been compared in the past. This pack has a greater 5,000mAh (19.25Wh), which can provide a close to an 80-85 percent battery life on the same phone. It is cheaper than Apple’s pack, even if it is on sale, comes in a wider selection of colors, and has a built-in kickstand. MagSafe’s Battery Pack is only available as a white option. Although it is not as well-designed for iPhones, and does not include the additional features mentioned above, it’s still a great value if you want more juice from a MagSafe pack. Anker’s 633 mAh BatteryThe capacity of, however, is even higher, though it has a thicker frame.
Despite their limited charging capabilities, MagSafe packs such as these can be considered batteries. extendersThings can be used to keep your phone running in a pinch. This is more than full-on power bank. The MagSafe Battery Pack is perfect for this purpose, especially since Apple recently released it. Firmware updateThe device’s charging speed was increased from 5W to 7W earlier in the year. This is slower than a good wired connection, but it matches the Anker models. This deal should be easy to justify if you are able to live with a smaller battery and appreciate some of the iPhone-friendly features.
