“Simply put, Christian nationalism is a cultural framework — a collection of myths, traditions, symbols, narratives, and value systems — that idealizes and advocates a fusion of Christianity with American civic life,” sociologists Andrew Whitehead and Samuel Perry write in their 2020 book, “Taking America Back For God: Christian Nationalism in America”The book explores how Christian nationalism influences Americans’ views on politics and society.

The ideology’s acceptance is not a binary choice. It is a spectrum. Some Americans believe certain aspects while others reject them. Torba’s book is a good example of this. His description of Christian nationalalism is different from academic understandings.

However, his central theme is consistent. American society should be guided and led by Christians.

A parallel Christian society is possible

These ideas align with the common understanding of Christian nationalism. The book does not state that the US is in a special relationship to God. It instead emphasizes the Christian mandate for all nations to be discipled or converted by the Christian God.

The book describes the modern American society as one that is morally decayed, in which God has been rejected, and where agents of Satan have invaded every aspect of our culture and country. According to the book, our society has seen “half a century” of legal infanticide and a monthly “celebrations of sodomy,” which rejects both abortion rights as well as gay pride. They also support traditional gender roles and condemn transgender people for their extreme views.

These themes are reiterated throughout the book which also offers advice to American Christians about how to live, share their faith and convert others. However, rather than attempting to make society more Christian, the book recommends that we create a parallel Christian society which can take over in the event of the collapse of our current society.

The authors state that their primary goal is to create a parallel Christian society and economy which will fill in the gap left by the secular state. This concept is not new to Torba. He has used it many times. Discusses his plans to create a parallel Christian economy.

Non-Christians are free to stay — but not serve in leadership roles

The authors suggest that the ideal Christian nation may also include non-Christians. They also state that “we are Christians, and our worldview is directly in conflict with and a threat of all false worldviews.” It is now that you are acting as it.

They also wrote that leaders and influential figures should be Christian just like Christian principles must guide all aspects in society, government, domestic life.

Torba — who has been Antisemitism charges brought upIncludes the Anti-Defamation League — and his co-author devote an entire chapter to rejecting the idea of shared “Judeo-Christian” values, calling the term itself a problem. The chapter opens with a message to journalists that they expect will “CTRL+F for Jews” to find quotes to “take from context.” It is dedicated to Jonathan Greenblatt, ADL CEO, and Ben Shapiro (conservative commentator), who are both Jewish.

Torba is As stated previously that Shapiro — just like anyone who is not Christian, including Jewish people, atheists, or agnostics — is not welcome in the Christian movement.

The authors describe Christianity as incompatible with Judaism, and write that the Jews should and will be converted to Christianity.

“Far more than being ‘antisemitic’, a real understanding of this shows deep concern for their souls!” They wrote that Christians should pray frequently for Jews to accept Jesus Christ their Savior and Lord.

The acceptance by the public of a taboo idea

These ideas are not new to scholars of Christian nationalism and Christian nationalists. Separation of church and State has been an accepted and popular viewpoint in the US for a long time.

Amanda Tyler, executive director of Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty, said that many ideals being proudly embraced by Christian nationalists are less common in mainstream politics today than in recent years.

Tyler, the leader organizer of the festival, stated that while it was always present, “the fact that they are openly accepting the label is different from what we expected.” Christians Against Christian NationalismCampaign, previously stated to Insider: “Unfortunately, I’m seeing it almost one-up in some circles. Who can be the larger Christian nationalist?”

Perry, one the authors of “Taking America Back for God,” pointed out that this shift in a TweetThis included Torba’s book and another pro-Christian nationalism title.

“We are now sure past the Christian nationalism doesn’t exist’ and Christian nationalism fringe’ arguments to fully embrace ‘Christian countryalism is the only path forward.
