‘Andor’ season finale is peppered with hidden ‘Star Wars’ Easter eggs: here’s what they mean

Star War: Andor is well-known for its inability to provide many obvious Easter eggs. Instead, they rely on deep writing and plot arcs that chart the Empire’s glory and the nascent stage of the Rebel Alliance. The 10th episode explains this better, and it’s one of the finest in the series instalment. It focuses on Cassian Andor’s escape from Narkina 5’s prison, while the other half portrays Luthen and Mon Mothma’s struggle to hide their identities.

The Imperial logo

The prison where Cassian is shaped like the Imperial logo, which is a strong metaphor for the Empire’s ruthlessness and its position in the galaxy. The Empire is a prison in which everyone must do what they are told, according to their roles. When their usefulness ends, they are discarded as objects. This shows the chilling truths of what the Empire believes. The only way out is death, as Palpatine reminded.

However, Cassian’s escape is an emblem of the only way out is by breaking the Empire. Cassian knows that even though there are methods to monitor the galaxy’s size, they won’t be sufficient. He wants people to understand that no institution can control the entire galaxy. This institution can be broken down if people learn to communicate. True rebellion can only be achieved when people are willing to take a leap of faith against the Imperial system.

Luthen is the enemy

Luthen realizes that he is the exact thing he hates when he speaks to his informant at the ISB. It is possible to think of him in The Empire Strikes Back as Darth Vader or Palpatine. Because he wants people serving the Rebel Alliance, there are times when this happens. However, he acknowledges that being a monster can only defeat it.

Luthen shows why Palpatine wasn’t afraid of the rebels. Their struggle was not the same. Star Wars: The Clone Wars cocreator Dave Filoni said once that “The Force naturally exists as balance. However, when someone chooses not to face their fears, the Force spirals out-of-control and makes selfish choice after choice. Fear can lead to anger, hatred, and suffering. It is not always easy to choose between light and dark. Everybody struggles to find the right balance between light and darkness. Since Palpatine knew that Luthen’s rebellion will use the tools of the dark force, fear, anger, hatred, and suffering, so he doesn’t have to be worried.

Luthen’s speech

Luthen is conscious of his dark side. He may not see the light at its end. Rogue One, A Star Wars Story offers the hope that everyone needs. JynErso tells everyone rebellions exist because people have hope rather than fear. The galaxy will finally see the light when the Skywalker twins Luke (and Leia) Skywalker, fight against the Empire. Luthen will finally find the dawn he longs for.

The coming rebellion

One can see the different colours of the rebellion during the prison break. Andor and the other inmates wear white and orange uniforms, which remind one X-Wing pilots’ uniforms in the Rebel Alliance, which was once worn by Luke Skywalker himself.

Cassian and Melshi escape

We see Cassian, Ruescott, and Ruescott Melshi at the end of this episode. They are important players from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. These men are the heroes Luthen hoped for and will do anything to complete what Luthen started. Andor follows the same path as those who gave their lives for the destruction of the Death Star during the Scarif mission.
