‘Andor’ ep. 10 is peppered with hidden ‘Star Wars’ Easter eggs: here’s what they mean

Star War: Andor is well-known for its inability to provide many obvious Easter eggs. Instead, they rely on deep writing and plot arcs that chart the Empire’s glory and the nascent stage of the Rebel Alliance. The 10th episode explains this better, and it’s one of the finest in the series instalment. It focuses on Cassian Andor’s escape from Narkina 5’s prison, while the other half portrays Luthen and Mon Mothma’s struggle to hide their identities.

The Imperial logo

The prison where Cassian is shaped like the Imperial logo, which is a strong metaphor for the Empire’s ruthlessness and its position in the galaxy. The Empire is a prison in which everyone must do what they are told, according to their roles. They are then discarded as objects after their usefulness ends, which is a chilling reminder of the Empire’s beliefs. The only way out is death, as Palpatine reminded.

However, Cassian’s escape is an emblem of the only way out is by breaking the Empire. Cassian knows that even though there are methods to monitor the galaxy’s size, they won’t be sufficient. He wants people to understand that no institution can control the entire galaxy. They can break down this institution if they learn to communicate. True rebellion will only occur when people make the leap of faith against this Imperial system, as prisoners did with water.

Luthen is the enemy

Luthen realises that he is now the same thing he used to hate when he talks to his informant in the ISB. Sometimes, one can think of him as Darth Vader or Palpatine in The Empire Strikes Back. He wants people to support the Rebel Alliance. He admits, however, that becoming a monster is the only way to defeat it.

Luthen explains why Palpatine did not fear the rebels. Their struggle was not the same. Star Wars: The Clone Wars creator Dave Filoni once explained that the Force is in balance. When someone gives in to their fears, it becomes unstable and spirals out of control. Fear can lead to anger, hatred, and suffering. The choice between light and darkness is often subtle, and it’s not just for Jedi and Sith. Everyone struggles to balance light and shadow. Since Palpatine knew that Luthen’s rebellion will use the tools of the dark force, fear, anger, hatred, and suffering, so he doesn’t have to be worried.

Luthen’s speech

Luthen is conscious of his dark side. He may not see the light at its end. Rogue One, A Star Wars Story offers the hope that everyone needs. JynErso tells everyone rebellions exist because people have hope and not fear. The last light will come when the Skywalker twins Luke and Leia inspire the galaxy to fight the Empire. Luthen’s longing to see the dawn will be fulfilled someday.

The coming rebellion

One sees the many colours of rebellion while in prison. Andor and the other inmates wear white and orange uniforms, which remind one X-Wing pilots’ uniforms in the Rebel Alliance, which was once worn by Luke Skywalker himself.

Cassian and Melshi’s Escape

The episode ends with Cassian and Ruescott Meshi, an important character from Rogue One – A Star Wars Story. These men are the heroes Luthen hoped for and will do anything to complete what Luthen started. Andor follows the same path as those who gave their lives for the destruction of the Death Star during the Scarif mission.
