Amazon Workers are Frustrated by Raises, according to Leaked Documents

1. Amazon warehouse workers furious at the company’s recent raises are revealed in leaked documents. The wages at the e-commerce giant were increased by approximately $0.50 to $1.00 per hour. But according to messages obtained by Insider, the wages aren’t enough to make workers feel valued — and some employees have described them as “A slap on the face.”

  • Amazon Pay raiseNearly 900 US facilities. Amazon spent $1 billion to raise the starting salary at its warehouses. This boosted the hourly rate from $18 to $19 and offered a variety of benefits.
  • These increases are made in the lead-up to Amazon’s second Prime Day sales eventThis year. Employees feel that the wage increases are not sufficient to counter encroaching inflation, or alleviate discontent about heavy workloads.
  • An internal messaging board containing dozens of comments from Orlando warehouse workers shows that not all staff saw the raises as a problem. The starting wages at that warehouse rose from $15.50 up to $16.00 
  • One employee stated, “I feel disregarded and humiliated.”

2. Officially, Musk’s upcoming trial against Twitter has been put on hold. To give both sides time to come to an agreement, the judge who is overseeing the case has agreed to stop proceedings on October 28. The trial will take place in November if they are unable to reach an agreement. The complete story is available here.

Google’s Trade Desk CEO was criticized for selling “the most misleadingly named product in recent Adtech” CEO Jeff Green criticized Google for engaging with “unfair” or “draconian” practices during an investor day conference. 7. Clearview AI, Google and Clearview AI are criticised by civil rights groups. The White House issued an “AI Bill of Rights”, which outlines principles that companies should follow when dealing with AI. When writing the bill, it asked companies, researchers, and civil rights groups for feedback — and several said facial recognition company Clearview AI practices are alarmingGoogle is the best! 8. To build his project after work, a 34-year-old programmer quit Stripe’s $300,000. Sumit Kumar left the billion-dollar fintech company in May to build his startup Parqet, a financial platform he started as a side project — and says he’s convinced it was the right thing to do. He explains.
