Amazon to Buy 10,000 Electric Delivery Vans By 2025

  • Amazon is expanding rapidly its fleet of electric vans in Europe. It plans to add 10,000 vehicles by 2025.
  • Andy Jassy, CEO of the company, stated that the investment of $970 million will allow the company to achieve its net-zero goals. 
  • The company intends to increase its network of micro-mobility hubs by twofold and launch 1,500 electric HGVs. 

Amazon is expanding rapidly its fleet of electric vehicles. It plans to have 10,000 electric delivery trucks on Europe’s roads by 2025. 

CEO Andy Jassy claimed that “deploying thousands electric vans, long haul trucks, and bikes would help us shift further away traditional fossil fuels.” Statement Monday. 

As part of the one billion euros ($970 million) investment, the company plans to double its 20-strong network of localized micro-mobility hubs — which facilitate parcels being delivered using e-bikes and by foot — and develop a network of charging points around the continent. 

Amazon plans to increase its fleet by 1,500 electric heavy-duty trucks (eHGVs). It currently has five trucks in the UK, and plans to add 20 in Germany by the year 2022. 

The company stated that it will be able to charge its vehicles in just two hours by investing in “hundreds of” fast chargers throughout Europe. 

Jassy explained that the investment will enable the company to achieve its goal of becoming net-zero by 2040. 

Amazon did not respond immediately to Insider’s request to comment outside of normal business hours.

This is the latest announcement in a series of recent announcements by the ecommerce giant relating to electric cars and climate pledges. 

In July Amazon unveiled the first of its electric delivery vansIn the USA. The company hopes to own as many as 100,000 Rivian-made vansby 2030 on US roads. The company owns 3,000 electric delivery vehicles in Europe.  

It isn’t the only company investing in electric delivery cars. Friday was Pepsi has confirmed that it will receive its first deliveries of Tesla’s long-awaited Semi Truck in December
