Darren Bent believes that Aston Villa would be ‘the perfect job’ for Mauricio Pochettino to return to management.
On Monday, there were reportsIt was suggested that Steven Gerrard’s replacement at Villa Park would be the Argentine head coach.
After the Liverpool Legend, Liverpool is under increasing pressure Villans’ 2-0 defeat to ChelseaVilla sits in 16th place on the table.
The Telegraph have claimed that Gerrard could be sacked if his side fail to beat Brentford at home this weekend, with Pochettino the club’s number one priority.
The former Tottenham boss is without a club after leaving Paris Saint-Germain in July this year, but while some may suggest that Pochettino will be holding out for a job at one of Europe’s biggest clubs, ex-Villa striker Bent believes that a move to his former club would be ideal for a boss may not get what he’s looking for.
Talking on TalkSPORT Drive, Bent said: “Aston Villa are a big club. Both the Manchester United and Chelsea jobs were available, but neither club chose to send Pochettino.
“He’s not going to get Liverpool any time soon, he’s not going to get Man City any time soon.
“The longer that he’s out of work, his stock will drop. He can only hold onto the Champions League final at Spurs.
“I think that he did a really good job there and went to PSG which was supposed to be the big job that he wanted, but it probably didn’t go to plan.
“I know he won the league, everyone wins the league, but he managed to lose it in his first year.
“When you speak to a lot of the European footballer experts he didn’t leave with a glowing reference and the club couldn’t wait to get rid of him, so it’s almost like his stock has dropped a little bit.
“It’s all well and good waiting for a top, top job because you think that’s the level that you’re at, but if these jobs don’t come available or they don’t hire you, Villa would be a perfect job.
“I don’t think that he’s one of the top, top managers in this country.
“Villa have got ambitious owners, they do spend money, the fanbase at Aston Villa is massive and they’ve got good players there who are just underperforming. Maybe a fresh voice in the dressing room would help.”
