After 20 years, ‘The Shining” star Shelley Duvall is back on the stage: How producers convinced her to act again

Shelley Duvall (Star of “The Shining”) is back in the spotlight for the first time since 20 years.

Duvall portrays the mother of Rico (Chico Mendez), who suffers from visions as a wanderer through the Catskills mountains.

The Forest Hills” was written and directed by Scott Goldberg and produced by Scott Hansen, with Golberg also serving as co-producer.

Dee Wallace (“E.T.”) also star in the movie. Dee Wallace (“E.T.”) and Edward Furlong (Terminator 2 : Judgment day’s) are also featured in the movie.

Duvall is best known for her unforgettable portrayals as quirky characters, including Millie Lammoreaux from the 1977 drama “Three Women” or Olive Oyl from the 1980 live action “Popeye” movie.

International fame came when she played Wendy Torrance, the iconic 1980 adaptation of Stephen King’s horror novel “The Shining” by Stanley Kubrick.

Duvall, who announced her retirement in 2002 moved back to Texas where she remained out of the spotlight.

Hansen said that he and Goldberg were big fans of Duvall, “The Shining,” and Hansen shared this with Fox News Digital.

Of casting Duvall, Hansen explained that it “was just one of those things where we’re like, ‘Hey, do you think we could bring her out of retirement?’”

Hansen stated, “We just reached her and it took probably like 100 phone calls to get to her to say yes. Then she was really happy.”

Duvall was the destination for the filmmakers.Texas home The shoot was filmed last Wednesday. Hansen stated, “It wasn’t hard to meet her. That was a big thing for me as an filmmaker.”

Hansen said that Duvall had been out for a while, but her talent was still “still there”. He said, “It’s just not there.” 

“I hope that this role helps her out a bit. It might give her some push.

Hansen claimed that Duvall shared stories with her about working on “The Shining” along with her struggles with Kubrick. Kubrick would sometimes force her to do 130 takes to capture the pain felt by Wendy.

Duvall has spoken out about her difficult experiences on set with director Stanley Kubrick.

He stated, “I direct too. And you put actors through 130 takes in a scene. They are going to be broken.

Hansen told Fox News Digital that when the filmmakers explained the character of Rico’s mother to Duvall, she said, “This is kind of reverse of what I went through on ‘The Shining.’”

“I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s kind of the point in a weird retrospect. It’s our attempt to make it work for you.

Hansen stated that Duvall’s return has brought the film a lot of attention from the media. 

Hansen confirmed to Fox News Digital that the movie will be released in 2023. Kevin SmithThe premiere was hosted by the host.

He said, “Which was insane? The Kevin Smith,” with a laugh.

“He has a theater near New Jersey. We are going to fly Shelley there when the movie is done. It will probably be March.”

Duvall, for her part, told the Hollywood Reporter she enjoyed the project. “It was a lot of fun and I’m excited to be back,” she said.
