A Wheelchair User was forced to drag herself to the bathroom on Flight

  • A woman seen dragging herself along a flight aisle claims that the crew didn’t give her any help to go to the bathroom.
  • Jenny Berrie (a wheelchair user) posted the video on TikTok. It has received 5 million views.
  • She stated, “Without this footage disabled people simply can’t be believed.”

TikTok has made a viral video about a woman who shared her disgusting experience as a wheelchair-user on a flight.

Jenny Berrie, a UK citizen, was captured dragging her feet down the aisle on an AlbaStar plane. She voiced in a voiceover saying that the cabin crew at Spanish airline, AlbaStar, refused to help her.

Berrie also stated that a flight crew member told her that disabled people should wear diapers in order to avoid this situation.

Airline passengers with disabilities are often transported using aisle chairs, which are specially designed wheelchairs that fit through the galley.

Berrie claimed she was moved to her seat in an aisle chair. However, AlbaStar said that it couldn’t keep one onboard for her use during the flight.

Berrie did not respond immediately to a request for comment. According to her Instagram profile, the overwhelming number of negative comments regarding her viral video led Berrie to turn off her phone for prolonged periods of time due to the high volume.

The ordeal was documented in writing InstagramBerrie claimed that she was told by staff that they had never before seen disabled people wearing nappies in their 27 years of experience working for airlines.

She said that life as a disabled person can sometimes feel downright humiliating and embarrassing. “I felt humiliated to be told straight to my face that I should wear an nappy if I don’t have to, and that they are happy to accept that policy.

AlbaStar issued an apology to Insider for the incident that occurred on a flight in relation to the experience of a passenger who has reduced mobility.

It added: “Aisle wheelchairs are not mandatory as per current regulation, not even recommended nor mentioned when talking about aircraft equipment/furnishing.”

Berrie responded by launching a Petition to make aisle chairs compulsory on all UK flightsIt has received almost 5,000 signatures.

Berrie spoke on Instagram and said that she was glad she had “got video footage” of the event. She added: “I know people don’t want to see it, but disabled people aren’t believed without this footage.”

She acknowledged that it was embarrassing and degrading to share such experiences online, but she did it to “ensure things change.”

When flying, it is common for wheelchair users and their seats to be mistreated. A Department of Transportation AnalysisAccording to complaints filed against US airlines, an average of 35.8 people were injured or disabled on flights last year.

The absence of accessible toilets on flights is a major issue for people with disabilities. Theo Donnelly, a wheelchair user, discusses this with us. Previously, InsiderHe’s had to use bottles to urinate if he wanted to fly.

Correction: September 26, 20,22 — An earlier version of this story incorrectly described a few details from the video. Someone was filming Jenny Berrie pull herself down the airplane aisle; she did not film herself. As she walked down the aisle, it appeared that crew members were pushing a bar cart in front of her.
